Hyperpigmentation is characterized by areas on the skin that are darker than others. Typically found on the face, neck, chest, and hands, such “spots” can be small, like freckles, or quite large and referred to as age or “liver” spots. The number one cause of hyperpigmentation is the sun, but inflammation and a multitude of skin diseases can also contribute.
