CoolSculpting and liposuction are both procedures designed to reduce fat to create a more attractive, refined body for both women and men.  But some key differences exist between the two.  If you’re considering getting rid of what they call pinchable fat, read on.

The results of CoolSculpting and liposuction are very similar. Both procedures are used to permanently remove excess fat from specific body parts such as the belly, thighs, back, love handles, upper arms and beneath the chin, although neither is intended for weight loss.

Let’s compare…

THE PROCEDURE

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that uses a sophisticated wand to freeze and eliminate up to 25% of fat cells in particular areas of the body.  You can lie back and watch a movie, catch up on work, or read a book during the procedure.

Liposuction is a surgical, invasive procedure that involves cutting, stitching, and anesthetizing. A provider makes a small incision and uses a long, narrow suction tool called a cannula to vacuum fat out from specific areas.

SAFETY

CoolSculpting is non-invasive, so side effects are usually minor.  You can expect a bit of bruising or skin sensitivity that resolves quickly.

Liposuction is an invasive surgery done with anesthesia.  Side effects may include blood clots, negative reactions to anesthesia, or other serious complications.

RECOVERY TIME

CoolSculpting requires NO recovery time.  One session takes just under an hour.  You may require multiple sessions depending on your goals.  You will, however, see results as soon as 3 weeks after just one session. Though, full results will be realized around the 3-month mark. The great thing is that you can immediately resume all of your normal activities after treatment.

Liposuction takes one to two hours.  Recovery time is usually a few days but you may need to wait 2 to 4 weeks before you can safely resume strenuous activity and several months for the full results to be seen as the swelling goes down.

RESULTS

The results for CoolSculpting and Liposuction are about the same and, once again, permanent, but you will actually see those results faster with CoolSculpting because of the swelling after liposuction.
